Hi All

I had a problem with my brakes squealing which after a few hours of work on Saturday has now been cured - But.... I now notice a missing noise!! :)

I don't seem to hear the pump that reamins on after the engines stopped any more.

I know some members have had problems with this and I don't want to be looking at

The pump is situated on the bulkhead kind of behind the fuel filter.

I tried to overhaul mine but the motor is unserviceable I dismantled the motor casing to have a look

In my case it was the brushes in the motor which had worn out.

The part attached to the motor with the impeller in it that the coolant flows through comes apart ok and goes back together fine the motor unfortunately doesn't.

I paid about

Thanks Dave - I'll give it a whirl - you never know! Mines now done 90K miles and is 4 years old so I expect it's just tired.

I'll try and source another pump from someone other than Fraud.

Wow, that pump is so like the one Vauxhall use on the V6 engines. You might want to get a price from there, the only difference looks like it is the connector, the Vauxhall one has wires coming out so could easy be fitted into the system.

Thanks MM - Although I suppose I will need to check the bore of the pipes in case the Vauxhall one is larger or smaller.

Course it doesn't mean it's a lot cheaper either!!

But a good idea!! :)

MM, Its probably the same as the Vauxhall one as it is a BOSCH part.

not sure of VW part number. Ford part number is 1307485

old part number 1124940

Thanks Dave

Don't worry I have no intention of giving any money to a Fraud dealer.

Does anyone have the VW or Seat Part Numbers?

I'll also start looking at Vauxhall!!

Thanks All

i have disposed of the old one, but i am sure it had the bosch part number stamped on the side.

VW part no i think is

3D0 965 561 D

had a look but the bosch no is round the back and impossible to see but it definately is stamped on there as i can see it in the original sized picture on my pc of the pump it says PAA 12v 0 392 which is the start of the bosch part no.

As your pump is faulty anyway, you could take it out and substitute it for a piece of pipe until you get a replacement you can then get the Bosch part no from it and hopefullly source one at a reasonable price

I found this on a German Galaxy site:

The make-up water pump with the part number 3D0 965,561 D is fitted among other things also in the following cars:

VOLKSWAGEN Bora starting from 2002

VOLKSWAGEN golf starting from 2002

VOLKSWAGEN LT starting from 1997

VOLKSWAGEN trade wind starting from 2001

VOLKSWAGEN phaeton starting from 2002

VOLKSWAGEN Sharan starting from 1996

VOLKSWAGEN Tuareg starting from 2003

VOLKSWAGEN transporter starting from 1999

Does that ring a bell with anyone? :D

Good news!! :( It's working - it seems like it was just a dodgy connector - After cleaning all seems well.

Thanks everyone for all your help & advice. :(

I am going to go on trying to find a cheaper version though! :D

it may not be as simple as a bad connection

as mine would work again for a bit if you tapped it or twisted it a bit bcause it would move the brushes in the motor enough to make contact again.

I think gazza007 also has this on his one.

keep your eye on it as 90k seems to be about the life of the pump as thats when mine started playing up

certainly shows it pays to shop around B) still on the bright side my company paid half as i use the car for work

i'd thank you but i ain't saved no money ;) , no seriously its gonna save people a lot of money,

thanks to all for all the research and finding the parts at half the price fraud charge

I got a price of fraud for some new wiper blades a while back and they quoted me about 50 quid.

Same Bosch ones from GSF

Cheers to both of you,

It's good when forum members work together like this to help each other out.

This is how it should work & used to when I first joined. I'm one of the older members(Not age!!!)

There has been some silliness recently which has driven valued contributors away.

Anyway Hope I can fit it.....
